A Marine is a member of an infantry force that specializes in naval operations such as amphibious assault. In some countries, a marine force is often part of a navy, but can also be under army or independent command. The United States Marine Corps traces its institutional roots to the Continental Marines of the American Revolutionary War, formed by Captain Samuel Nicholas by a resolution of the Second Continental Congress on 10 November 1775, to raise 2 battalions of Marines. That date is regarded and celebrated as the date of the Marine Corps' "birthday". he Marines' most famous action of this period occurred during the First Barbary War (1801–1805) against the Barbary pirates, when William Eaton and First Lieutenant Presley O'Bannonled eight Marines and 500 mercenaries in an effort to capture Tripoli.
One of Americas Elite Infantry, the US Marines are essentially slightly cheaper, inferior guards with 25% less men than other elite infantry. Their cheapness does not make up for the large inferiority they have compared to Guards. The lack of men with inferior accuracy is telling when going up against other Elite Infantry units. Like all Guard units they inspire units around them, acting as both a rally point and a anchor. In a campaign a US player has better options available to him than this largely flavour unit.
